On a Georgian townhouse in a conservation area the front is not available. So the insulation went on the inside.
Walls were taken back to bare brickwork, then Diathonite Evolution lime-cork-clay plaster was sprayed on through the front room, the landing and around the fireplace, worked by hand into the awkward corners. A lime smoothing coat went over the top and was decorated normally. From the street nothing has changed.

If the outside of your house has to stay exactly as it is, the insulation can go on the inside without losing much of the room.
