We're a small firm based in Hemel Hempstead, working on listed and period properties across London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We specialise in insulation work and part or full renovations. We're known for improving energy efficiency using sustainable, natural materials.

Where would you like to start?

Most people arrive here in one of two situations. Neither one is more welcome than the other, so pick whichever sounds more like you.

You already know what you want done

If you have drawings from an architect, a schedule of works from a surveyor, or a clear idea you can share with us, any of those is fine.

Send us what you have, and we'll put together a proper price. If you don't have drawings, a few photos and a description of what you're looking for are usually enough to get started.

You'd like some good advice first

If you're thinking about how to insulate your building, which materials would suit it best, or how to make it sustainable and sympathetic without damaging the house.

Whichever it is, we'll come and take a proper look at the house, and write down what we suggest doing - and in what order. The report is yours to keep, whether the work ends up going ahead with us or with somebody else.

What we take on

Insulation, lime plastering and rendering, damp put right at the cause, and full renovation of period and listed buildings.

Insulation, and improving energy efficiency

Most of the buildings we work on are more than 100 years old, and they need insulating quite differently from a modern building. They were built to breathe, and they have to carry on breathing afterwards.

  • Internal and external wall insulation
  • Suspended and solid floor insulation
  • Roof and loft insulation
  • Getting a building ready for a heat pump
  • Heating systems and underfloor heating, as part of a wider job
  • Airtightness works
  • Reducing summer overheating, not only winter heat loss
  • Wood fibre, hemp, cork, lime-cork insulating plaster and blown-in cellulose

Listed building renovations

If your house is listed and needs more than a bit of TLC, we're up for it. A job like that usually starts with a proper plan, and can take in structural changes, insulation, lime plastering and rendering, and everything that comes afterwards to finish it off. We'll make it comfortable to live in, and keep it authentic. All with our own teams, who we've worked with for years.

  • Part and full renovations
  • Listed and historic buildings, every grade
  • Structural works
  • Insulation with sympathetic materials
  • Lime plastering and rendering
  • Electrics, heating and plumbing
  • Finishing works
  • We'll help with listed building consent, planning and building control

Kitchens, bathrooms, underfloor heating and tiling come as part of a wider renovation rather than as jobs on their own.

Renovating period homes and cottages

Most period houses aren't listed, and they're just as worth doing properly. Cottages, farmhouses, Victorian and Edwardian homes - we'll take the whole renovation on, and the fabric comes first: insulated and made airtight in natural materials, with everything else built on top of that. How far to go is yours to decide, all the way to EnerPHit standard if that's what you want. And if there's an extension or a conversion in it, we won't run away from that either.

  • Full renovation of period homes and cottages
  • Part renovations, a room or a floor at a time
  • Eco-retrofit and whole-house deep retrofit
  • EnerPHit and Passivhaus standard upgrades, if you want to go that far
  • Extensions and conversions, built to the same standard

What our clients say about us

“Very professional and knowledgeable. The site was left immaculate every evening. The job was completed quickly and any hitches along the way were solved quickly by Adam without any drama! Our house looks amazing, and is noticeably warmer. Many thanks.”
Kerry A
“We completely renovated our property to include new electrics, plumbing, flooring, tiling, plastering, replacement doors and windows, insulation, paving, and decking. The process was project managed professionally from start to finish and the work was completed to a very high standard. The attention to detail and consultative way they approached the works was impressive and I cannot recommend Adam and his team highly enough.”
Gordon M Belsize Park, London
“Exceptional Service! I asked for the company to come to give me a quote on an insulation job. Adam attended and was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and offered lots of information and advice enabling me to make an informed decision about what would be best to insulate my property. He suggested cavity insulation even though this is not a service his company provide. This showed that he is not about the money but is genuinely interested in helping customers for this reason I felt compelled to write a review.”

Whereabouts we work

We're based in Hemel Hempstead and most of our work is within about an hour of it, which covers London, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. That means places like St Albans, Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Chesham, Amersham, Watford and Rickmansworth, as well as most of north London.

We do occasionally travel further when a job is the right sort of job, so if you're a bit outside that and you think we'd suit each other, do just ask.

Shall we come and have a look?

If you already know what you'd like done, send us the details and we'll price the work for you. If you'd rather somebody came and looked at the house first and told you honestly what it needs, that's what the survey is for.

£180 + VAT. If the project goes ahead with us, we take it off the final cost of the work.
