A garage is a single skin of masonry, which is to say almost no wall at all. We put new windows and a door in first, then built the insulation up on the inside.
Hempcrete blocks were laid against the existing wall, course by course, and detailed around the new door frame. Breathable lime plaster went over them and was painted as normal. What was a garage is a room now, with a wall that insulates and still handles moisture.
